When applied to the base of the upper eyelids, the active ingredient (bimatoprost) in Latisse maintains the growth phase of the eyelashes, producing thicker, longer, darker lashes. Latisse is available only by prescription to treat 'hypotrichosis' i.e. inadequate eyelashes.
In clinical trials, over 75 percent of patients reported significant eyelash enhancement. Impressive results are seen after about 4 weeks, but it is important to note that they are not permanent. Once a patient stops using Latisse, lashes return to their normal state. Good candidates for Latisse will be healthy, have no associated allergies, and may experience dissatisfaction with the length and number of their eyelashes.
