Dysport is an injectable wrinkle treatment marketed by Medicis, the company that also markets Restylane and Perlane. At Dr. Heffernan's downtown Seattle office, we offer Dysport for the treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines.

Where exactly are my glabellar lines?

Also known as frown lines, glabellar lines reside on the smooth part of a person's forehead, between and above the eyebrows. The constant contraction of corrugator and procerus muscles in the face causes wrinkles in this area over time.

How does Dysport treat lines and wrinkles?

The composition and treatment mechanism of Dysport is similar to Botox, using botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax wrinkles. The process is called neuromuscular blocking: Dysport blocks the chemical triggers that cause specific facial muscles to contract, allowing wrinkles to flatten out.

What is Dysport treatment like?

Dysport treatment will only take about 20 minutes of your time. Dr. Heffernan or our clinical aesthetician Angela Corpus will first identify the appropriate injection site. To ensure your comfort, a numbing cream may be applied to the area. The injection is relatively comfortable; many have compared the sensation to an insect bite. The results are not immediately realized because it takes 3-5 days for the botulinum toxin to take effect.

Are there other treatment applications besides frown lines?

Dysport is FDA approved for the treatment of glabellar lines, but other, similar treatments are possible. Forehead lines, lipstick lines, and crow's feet are common applications. Ask us for more information.

Who should NOT receive Dysport injections?

Dysport treatment is not recommended for the following persons:

  • People over 65 years of age
  • People with hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin
  • People who are allergic to cow's milk protein
  • Pregnant women
  • Children
